Fair Tax

The “Boston tea party” was about fair taxation.  “Taxation without representation” is unfair.  Today’s American democracy is practiced at 5% the representation level of the 1790 congress.  Is this fair “representation”?  Would the early colonists have settled for taxation at 5% representation in the English government?

The “Fair Tax” is comprehensive tax reform.  It was not “invented” by the democrats.  This is primarily why the Obama administration ignores the idea.  The republicans have difficulty getting past the objections of the wealthy elite.  Truth knows no ownership.

The fair tax is a consumption tax, not an income tax.  The protestant ethic built America.  Income tax is a protestant ethic tax and should be eliminated.

The fair tax is a consumption tax that eliminates the IRS and the income tax.  The fair tax is middle America labor force friendly.  The fair tax does not tax labor or provide loopholes for the wealthy.  The fair tax delivers a “universal prebate” that refunds, in advance, the tax on purchases of basic necessities.  This eliminates regressive-ness on low and poverty incomes.  Details of how this is accomplished are at http://www.fairtax.org

The fair tax allows a lifestyle with little or no taxes at all.  The catch is, this lifestyle must remain at level of  “basic necessities”.  Beyond this level, consumption taxes apply.  A tax free lifestyle may not be desirable or tasteful to some wishing greater consumption.  Thoreau, http://plato.stanford.edu/entries/thoreau/ , Emerson,  http://plato.stanford.edu/entries/emerson/ , the Amish, and other “frugal” lifestyles at “basic necessity” levels are tax free.  Frugality and savings are encouraged by the fair tax.

The fair tax dramatically widens the tax base by including consumer spending from the underground economy (estimated at $1.5 trillion annually), by including illegal immigrants, and by eliminating all loopholes and gimmicks. In addition, 40 million foreign tourists a year will become American taxpayers as consumers here.

The consumption tax is economically logical.  Taxation diminishes enthusiasm.  If income is taxed, people are less inclined to work.  If investment is taxed, people are less inclined to invest.  Consumption tax slows down consumption.  This is positive economics.  A strong economy thrives on productive work, savings, and investment.  The fair tax encourages these positive economic behaviors by making them tax free.

The fair tax is not new.  Fairtax.org was organized in 1995.  Huckabee talked “fair tax” in the last presidential election.  He was the only major candidate talking this policy.  Powerful special interest groups in both parties repeatedly table the fair tax.

The FairTax:

  • Enables workers to keep their entire paychecks
  • Enables retirees to keep their entire pensions
  • Refunds, in advance, the tax on purchases of basic necessities
  • Allows American products to compete fairly
  • Brings transparency and accountability to tax policy
  • Ensures Social Security and Medicare funding
  • Closes all loopholes and brings fairness to taxation

Bad service requires more waiters. Fires everywhere requires more fighters. Crime requires more police. Elected oligarchy requires more congresspersons. Elected monarchy requires more presidents. America lacks governance? Keep the congress and add 11k more. Keep the president and add 8 more. Democracy disperses power. Autocracy consolidates power. Step it up, America.  Be proactive. Check out plan-b.

Sorry, you lost me with the Fair Tax link. Progressive taxation is fair taxation.

The “fair tax” is a progressive tax, already, by automatically taxing the greater consumption of high income Americans.

If high income Americans wish to invest in America and not consume, then no tax is levied. In the meantime, all Americans benefit from investments in America.

The fair tax http://wp.me/p1fQnO-2B is “fairer” than the progressive tax, because it gives a choice. Consume or not to consume. Pay tax or not to pay tax. This is even fairer than a progressive tax.
