Currency Patriots vs Citizen Patriots

America is a big place.  There are 308 million citizens representing 308 million human experiences.  There are thousands of small municipalities, town squares, and gas stops.  There are hundreds of shining bustling cities. There are 50 states, big, small, new, and old.  Washington is a proud shining bustling national capital.

Americans are patriots with unabashed and undaunted pride in their country.  It is pride in family spilling generously over to city, state, and country.  Americans are proud of their accomplishments and prosperity, their innovation, invention, and investment.  Americans are proud of their schools, elementary, high school, junior colleges, trade schools, and institutions of higher learning.

Americans are proud of a history that celebrates and embraces all diversity of the human experience.  Americans are proud of their democratic traditions, reforms, and advancements in human rights.  Americans are proud of businesses, corporations, banks and trading systems.  Americans are proud of their economic achievements and fiscal strength.  America is proud of its military and its history of unselfish devoted discipline and sacrifice.

America is a country of Jersey shore kingdoms, big media frenzies, and wallstreet empires while supporting thousands of small town squares, nestled churches, and wandering farmhouses. What’s not to love?  There’s something for everyone.  There’s lots of space and heartfelt welcome everywhere.

Patriotism acts for the greater good.  The greater good is in dispute.  The result is two kinds of patriotism, each with priorities and loyalties. Currency patriots believe freedom lies in free unlimited and unhindered capitalist markets.  The currency patriot believes freedom is subordination to the workings of a free market economic system.  Citizen patriots believe freedom lies in improved and more dynamic democratic institutions.

America is a young country, in historical terms, a bit prone to foolishness and arrogance. Decades pass, wars temper, tragedies sober, and the American character slowly changes and matures. Populations grow, technologies advances, knowledge expands, people and attitudes change.

Over time, we see a riff and rustle in American patriotism.  It’s a natural historical process of issue and value reassessment.   The riff is rooted in early American history and experience. It’s an old issue at the core of the American character.  It has to do with priority, future, planning, and values.  Four powerful elements define this issue, democracy, freedom, capitalism, and currency.

America needs it all.  It needs all 308 million citizens, all towns, cities, and states.  The third millennium demands this unity.  America needs it all, democracy, freedom, capitalism, and currency.  The difficulty is finding the right combination to form a strong America capable of coping with third millennium challenges.

America enters the third millennium discovering apportionment failure.  ( )  Failure to properly reapportion seriously affects the tone and efficiency of government.  Further examination finds a country’s patriotism splitting into two groups. Patriots favoring the dominance of capitalism in the political sphere are currency patriots.  Patriots seeking the continued expansion of democratic rights and freedoms are citizen patriots.

Both types of patriotism are justified.  A strong patriotism for capitalism has grown as a result of America’s successful economic growth and wealth.  A strong citizen patriotism has grown with democratic expansion of minority and human rights.  Both types of patriotism are American and both define a divide that will determine America’s progress and future.

The truth must be some combination of both patriots.  Both is better than a choice of one.  Historically, capitalism thrives where democratic institutions guarantee freedom, fairness, and human rights.  The patriot divide defines the political field and issues of 2012.  Citizen patriots will be debating currency patriots well into the 3rd millennium.

It’s not about taking sides. It’s about awareness of crucial underlying issues.  Citizen patriots must become more capitalistic.  Currency patriots must become more democratic.  America needs both, not a choice between. There are two kinds of patriotism, but only one America, middle America.

It’s common sense. When service in a restaurant suffers, more waiters are needed. It’s common sense. When fire breaks out everywhere, more fire fighters are needed.  It’s common sense. When crime becomes rampant, more police are needed. It’s common sense. Building a house requires enough carpenters or waiting a lifetime for results. #c535+1 didn’t build Hoover dam.  #c535+1 didn’t build the interstate highway.  Middle America did. (millions of them)

It’s common sense. When democracy morphs to elected oligarchy and America lacks governance, send help to the few surviving democratic representatives.  More representatives are required.  More presidents are required.

Keep the #c535+1.  Send 6800 more.   #c535+1 is elected autocrat-centered oligarchy.  #c7329 is citizen-centered democracy. The MART citizen-chamber does the right thing.  The MART autocrat-chamber gets it done. Third millennium citizen-democracy is unstoppable.  Resistance or delay is truly tragic.
